WORLD MENSTRUAL HYGIENE DAY: EDUCATION BOSS TO FLAG-OFF ‘ONE-GIRL-ONE-PAD-CAMPAIGN’ IN ORUK ANAM
… Governor’s wife to serve as Special Guest of honour
As part of activities to mark the 2021 International Menstrual Hygiene Day celebration, a Non Governmental Organization (NGO) – Every Girl Child Foundation, in collaboration with the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Education, is organizing a ‘ONE-GIRL-ONE-PAD sensitization campaign’ and distribution of sanitary pads among other reproductive health kits to female youths in Oruk Anam LGA.
In a release signed by the executive director of the NGO, Queen Racheal Peter, the program will be flagged-off by the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Mrs Idongesit Etiebet , while the first lady of Akwa Ibom State, Dr (Mrs) Martha Udom Emmanuel, will serve as Special Guest of Honour.
The event which is celebrated annually on 28th May globally, will be held at Community Secondary School, Inen Ekeffe in Oruk Anam Local Government Area by 10am.
High points of the event shall be; health talks, distribution of sanitary pads and reproductive health kits as well as distribution of Educational materials to the youths and school children.
It would be recalled that the 2021 theme of the celebration is; ” It’s time for Action & Investment in Menstrual Health”. The NGO however, called on government agencies, cooperate bodies and stakeholders to be more concerned in the Menstrual & Reproductive Health of thier girl children in order reduce the threat of urinary tract infections, (UTI), risk of Cervical Cancer and many other reproductive health risks during and after menstruations.
Meanwhile, the foundation while inviting the students enjoins other female youths from the area to avail themselves of this opportunity.
