WE MUST REPOSITION AKWA IBOM STATE
– Senator Bob
Senator Effiong Bob has advocated the repositioning of Akwa Ibom State in the Nigerian nation, in terms of human resources development and in terms of economic and industrial advancement. He said that the fact that our human resources depend largely on the state’s resources was unacceptable stressing that it is time to start placing our people in strategic positions at the national level.
The two term Senator of the Federal Republic pointed out that in the area of economic and industrial development, the Udom Emmanuel administration has strategically advanced the process of making the state an industrial hub in the south south geopolitical zone through the setting up of industrial concerns in the state and therefore called for unwavering support to the administration.
Senator Bob who was addressing the Uyo Senatorial District Media Practitioners’ Forum (USDMPF) when the body paid him a courtesy visit in Uyo asked journalists to avoid sensational reportage but to always dwell on the truth after due and proper investigations. He called on them to support the COMPLETION AGENDA of the Udom Emmanuel administration to a logical conclusion.
On the issue of the governorship of the state come 2023, Senator Bob said that all could aspire but that the people should be given the opportunity to decide based on the aspirants’ knowledge of the state and its needs stressing that service to the state and its people should be of paramount importance in the choice of a governor of Akwa Ibom State from Uyo Senatorial District. He said that if Uyo Senatorial District gets it right, things would have been on the path of changing for the better.
“I have heard insinuations to the effect that you are a splinter group, let me quickly say that the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended guarantees freedom of expression and freedom of association; those freedoms are inalienable to you people. Even as Chairman of Comfort FM, Uyo, I do not teleguide the staff of the station, so nobody should peageonhole and teleguide you,” Senator Bob said in reaction to the splinter group allegation.
Earlier in his speech, the Chairman of Uyo Senatorial District Media Practitioners’Forum (USDMPF) and publisher of Prime Voice newspaper, Mr Ofonime Isong, outlined the objectives of the body to include the total support to the Governor Udom Emmanuel administration to succeed, promotion of the COMPLETION AGENDA of this administration and the unbiased development of opinions as to who succeeds Governor Udom Emmanuel in 2023.
He said that the body is independent and has no sponsors and was prepared to remain so to avoid being hijacked by aspirants. He used the opportunity to add, however, that USDMPF was prepared to give all the aspirants a level playing field to present what they have to offer if given the mandate stressing that the body was not “for anybody but for everybody”.
